Israel conflict latest: UK to evacuate citizens wishing to leave Israel

Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian will head to Baghdad on Thursday, on the first leg of a regional tour that will also see him visit Lebanon.

He will meet with Iraqi officials, according to Tasnim news agency, affiliated to Irans’ Revolutionary Guards. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said he will discuss bilateral and regional issues, including Gaza.

There are growing concerns that Iran-backed groups in the region, including Hizbollah, Lebanon’s most formidable political and military group, will fully commit to the conflict, triggering a broader regional conflagration that could engulf Syria, Iraq and even Iran itself. It could even risk dragging in the US, which has hundreds of troops stationed in Syria and Iraq, both countries home to Iran-backed Shia militias.
